The Right Way to Use Past Papers for Maths Revision
How to get real value from past papers: strict marking against official schemes, classifying errors properly, a redo cycle, and when to go timed.
Past papers are the single most effective revision resource for GCSE and A-Level Maths, and also the most commonly misused. Working through a paper and checking your final answers against a list is better than nothing, but it captures a fraction of the value on offer. Mark Against the Official Scheme, Properly

Common Mistakes When Using Past Papers
A few habits recur often enough to be worth naming directly.
- Doing the same papers twice without a gap. Repeating a paper you sat two days ago mostly tests memory of the specific questions, not genuine improvement. Leave at least a week, and ideally return to a paper only after redoing your logged errors from memory first.
- Working through papers in board order rather than difficulty order. All boards are broadly comparable, but jumping between AQA, Edexcel and OCR without checking that your target board's style and command words match what you are practising can leave subtle gaps, particularly in how "show that" and multi-part questions are structured.
