How UCAS points work
The UCAS Tariff converts qualification grades into a single number so universities can compare applicants across different qualification types. An A* at A-Level is worth 56 points, an A is 48, and a typical AAB offer comes to 136 points. Not every university uses the Tariff — many competitive courses state grades directly (for example A*AA including Maths) — but points-based offers are common at mid-tariff universities and in Clearing.
Maths counts twice
Maths and Further Maths are among the highest-value A-Levels for STEM, economics and computer science offers. If your predicted maths grade is holding your total back, work through A-Level past papers with worked solutions and check your marks against real boundaries with the grade boundary predictor.
