A-Level Offer Checker: Do Your Predicted Grades Meet Your Offer?

Every year thousands of students open their UCAS Hub, read "A*AA including Maths", and have no clear idea whether their predicted grades actually get them there. Our free A-Level Offer Checker answers that in a few seconds.

How the checker works

Type your offer exactly as the university wrote it — A*AA, AAB, BBC — and add your predicted grades subject by subject. The tool then:

• Sorts your grades highest to highest and matches them against the offer.
• Handles subject conditions first, so "A* in Maths" is checked against Maths specifically.
• Adds your UCAS Tariff points, so points-based offers (e.g. 136 points) are checked too.
• Tells you the exact gap: which subject is short, and by how many grades.

You get one of three verdicts: offer met, borderline (one grade short), or offer not met.

Grades offers vs points offers

A grades offer such as AAB refers to your three best full A-Levels. AS-Levels and the EPQ do not count towards it. A points offer converts everything into UCAS Tariff points — an A* A-Level is 56 points, an A is 48, and an A in the EPQ adds 24. Some universities will also reduce an offer by one grade for a strong EPQ. That is worth asking admissions about directly if you are on the borderline.

If you are one grade short

A one-grade near miss is the most common results-day outcome, and universities accept plenty of them. What helps:

1. Work out how many raw marks that grade actually is. Often it is fewer than ten — the grade boundary predictor shows you the real boundaries from the last three years.
2. Target the gap, not the whole syllabus. Timed past paper questions on your weakest topics move a grade faster than re-reading notes.
3. Have your insurance and Clearing options written down before results morning so you are not deciding under pressure.

Maths is usually the swing subject

For STEM, economics and computer science offers, maths is the grade most likely to decide the outcome — and the one most responsive to targeted practice. Working through A-Level past papers with full worked solutions and marking honestly against the boundaries is the fastest route from a B to an A.
